Dr Cem Özbek is convinced: “We can measure ourselves with any Cardiac Centre of Germany’s Southwest”. He even noted a small length in advance on Homburg University Hospital. Its Cardiology Department takes approximately 6,500 in-patients and 2,000 ambulatory patients per year. The Department which counts 39 physicians, supported by qualified medical and nursing staff of approximately 130 people, offers diagnosis and treatment on the top of modernity; there are practised in particular explorations by cardiac catheterisation and by intravascular echocardiography, all the interventions on coronary vessels and aorta as well as the treatment of all cardiac and vascular diseases. Furthermore the HerzZentrum Saar has four cardiac catheter laboratories and a dual source coronary CT.

Dr Cem Özbek records a rise of request concerning treatment and therapy of rhythmic disorders and cardiac failures. Therefore in his Department, all types of cardiac pacemakers can be implanted. An increase of invasive angiology of the kidneys and in the pelvic region has as well been observed. This growth is also a result of the reinforced collaboration with Nierenzentrum which is the Nephrology Centre of the SHG-Kliniken which is in the next building.

Dr Isringhaus and his team carry out approximately 1,000 operations each year, many of them on beating heart under extracorporeal circulation. His Cardiothoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department is specialized on coronary bypass grafting and heart valve operations as well as interventions by minimally invasive heart operations and pulmonary surgery. People come here - now and then from far away - with all kinds of cardiac disorders like blood circulation disorders, heart valve diseases and other heart diseases, aortic disorders, thoracic inflammation of the rib cage or lung tumours.
 

And yet, the major operation is not always  necessary : because the methods and the technical equipment improve continuously, Isringhaus relies more and more on minimally invasive surgery.

 “ The interdisciplinary collaboration in the HerzZentrum works perfectly” agreed Isringhaus and Özbek. The close cooperation, the common access to diagnostic and therapeutic examination facilities, the support of the other SHG-Kliniken Völklingen Departments are all of them things that at the end are useful to the patients and are a clear advantage for them.
